ARDY’S FIRST POST – LET’S GET HEALTHY

Hello out there to anyone interested in our challenge and our efforts to live a healthy lifestyle. My name is Ardy Kassakhian and I live and work in Glendale, California. My background is Armenian and Greek and as you’ve probably noticed from my online photos and videos, I’m a pretty big guy. I started this challenge weighing in at 280 lbs. My goal is to lose at least 50 lbs and the long term goal is to slim down to a weight that is considered healthy for my height – 180 to 190 lbs. Now, I know… Continue

Losing It For The Kids Challengers

The First Week

It's the end of the first week of our challenge, and I can tell you it is going to be a good one.

Ardy and I met this morning for the All About You Wellness Bootcamp Hike at the Deukmejian Wilderness Park in La Crescenta with about a dozen other healthy hikers.

And boy what a hike. The initial climb was a toughy, but we both kept putting one foot in front of the other and made it up the hill.

Have you ever been to this park? I didn't even know it existed.… Continue

Losing It For The Kids Challengers

Starting point!

This past Friday, Ardy and I met with Elaine Miller of All About You Wellness Bootcamp to take our initial measurements. To say the least, it was an interesting and somewhat humbling experience. For someone like me (or maybe anyone for that matter) who has struggled with weight control most of my life, it's difficult to see those measurements. Especially in front of others. But I believe that placing myself in the public eye will give me the added… Continue

Losing It For The Kids Challengers

Why are we doing this?

My good friend and fellow Glendale Healthy Kids board member, Ardy Kassakhian, announced at a recent get-together that he was going to commit to losing weight and develop a better lifestyle and nutrition program for himself. You see, he got to thinking about the example he was setting (or not setting) for the community as a member of a community-benefit organization that promotes good health. He decided it was important for him to set an example for the kids, and put his "belly… Continue

Nutrition Tip: Healthy Fat - courtesy of All About You! Wellness Bootcamp (www.aaybootcamp.com)

Dietary fat is essential to our bodies. The key is to choose foods with healthy fats, and to limit your overall fat consumption to 20-35% of your daily calorie intake.UNSATURATED FATS are the ones that are healthy for your heart. Examples include nuts, seeds, avocados, olives, fish, olive oil, safflower oil.SATURATED FATS generally come from animal foods, and these should be limited because they can clog your arteries and contribute to heart disease. Saturated fats include meats, cheese, milk,…See More

Inspiration: DON'T LABEL YOURSELF! - courtesy of All About You! Wellness Bootcamp

So many times we hear our new BootCamp members say things like, "I'm not coordinated," "I'm not athletic," "I'm not strong," "I don't have willpower," or worse, "I'm fat."Labeling yourself limits yourself. You put yourself in a box and say this is the way I am, this is the way I've always been, and this is the way I'm always going to be. Your potential to change and grow is unlimited! Break free by breaking away from those labels! This week, think about which labels you've affixed to yourself,…See More
